Saint Pierre d'Eyraud - 24130
Eyraud river gave it its name in the 17th century, and the Saint Patron Pierre is celebrated on June the 29th.
The Gauls were certainly the first inhabitants of these green and fertile landscapes. A monolithic sarcophagus, discovered in 1884 at the Masseries, also attests of the Romans presence. It contains, besides a body and textile debris, few Roman coins and three glass containers. The parish is mentioned in the 12th century under the name of « Parocha Sancti Petri Deurot ».
At least four castles occupied the soil of the municipality. Two of them, the Féroux and the Picherie, have become renowned wine properties. Masduran Castle, called “Masus Durandi” in 1345, depended of the Lords of La Force. It was taken by the Count of Derbi. It was again besieged by the English in 1450, and freed by the French who returned it to Jean de Beaupoil, lord of the place. One can also quote the castle of Sauthier, old residence of Saint-Martin.
It constitutes the Commandery of the Order of the Templars.

Le Sautier, former fortified barn of the Templar Commandery, used to be a large single-story massive building.
Initially owned by the Order of the Templars, the fortified barn went to the Order of Malta which succeeded in the region. Its framework is dated from the 16th century (pending additional expertise).
Le Sautier stands proud by a small remote road. Located on a height, it offers a breathtaking view of Saussignac Vineyards' hill.

You can still see its Chapelle's foundation facing 0° East @ Jerusalem.
